# LABELS_HIDDEN

> LABELS_HIDDEN is a lint warning: an XY or quadrant chart left out text the source asked for because it did not fit: category names on the x-axis, bar value labels, or quadrant point labels.

## What triggers it

Many or long category names under a vertical chart, where the axis thins its tick labels to avoid overlap or drops a category axis whose widest name does not fit; a bar whose value label fits neither inside the bar nor in the plot beyond its end; or a quadrant point whose label collides with labels placed before it. `target` says which, and `labels` lists exactly what is missing.

## How to fix it

Shorten the category names, flip the chart with `set_orientation {horizontal: true}` so categories run down the side, or widen the value range so labels have room beyond the bars. For a quadrant chart, spread the points, shorten the names, or enlarge the chart.
